The life in that child was still so very weak
They wanted to be held
That's all that they wanted, but

In a house littered with broken walls, dust and glass
Barefoot and bloodied among the splinters
The child cried out, "Mama? Mama?"
Went unheard; was heard
Why is it someone or something
Always ends up being too late?

That child was crying all this time
That child was crying all along

Hold out your arms, if you notice a trembling life
Sometimes all you can do is pray
But even still, hold them close
If you happen to notice
A trembling life at your side

The mother was pale with exhaustion
Her wage so meagre, yet she kept working with a smile

The daycare overflowing with children
Outstretched hands, begging not to be left there
Were torn away
The voices of children echo still
Waiting devotedly for their mothers to return

On the news, adults in their black vans
Hiring babysitters
Shouting in their theatrical voices:
"This is for the children, for the youth!"

Take my hand, if you hear a voice crying for relief
Sometimes all you can do is pray
But even so, take my hand
If you happen to hear
A voice crying for relief
